  • Afro-Cuban Drumming
    • Learn some Afro-Cuban drumming rhythms and explore a diverse range of percussion instruments. Campers will be given the chance to experience multi-cultural music as well as improvisation in a percussion setting.
  • Learn a New Band Instrument (Instruments provided by camp)
    • Choices include flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, or percussion. Great for students who are considering switching to a more advanced instrument in their regular bands or who just want to experiment! No experience required! Please note: reed instruments will be notified in advance of camp with what reed to purchase for this elective.
  • Learn a New String Instrument (Instruments provided by camp)
    • Choices include violin, viola, cello, and string bass. Great for students who may be thinking of switching to a new instrument for balance in your school ensemble or for those who just want to experiment. No experience required!
  • Jazz Band
    • Students will learn several tunes in a mixed skill jazz band with improvisation opportunities
  • Music Theory
    • Campers will grow their skills in music reading and analysis. This is a great stepping stone for composers or students who want to pursue music performance on their own time and interests.
  • Composition
    • A chance to review music theory and also write music under the guidance of our music staff. Campers in this elective can write for their own instruments or for a mix of instruments to be performed. If your camper already has compositions that they are working on, feel free to bring them for refinements and development!
  • Conducting
    • Campers will learn the fundamentals of conducting, reading music scores, and be given the opportunity to conduct their fellow musicians.
  • Jazz Improvisation
    • In this elective students will learn some standard jazz melodies and licks and be given the opportunity to develop and improve their improvisation skills.
  • Chamber Choir
    • For campers who love to sing or would like to explore their singing skills this ensemble is a perfect opportunity to do just that!
  • Beginning Ukulele
    • Designed for students with little to no experience on ukulele but who want to learn to rock out. Students can bring their ukes from home, or borrow one provided by camp
  • Drama/Theatre Games
    • Students who want to work on their acting, try out some theatre improv, or who just like the spotlight will love the opportunity to “act out” in this elective.
  • Chamber Ensembles (not just for string players!)
    • Students will be organized into small ensembles and provided music to learn with their peers under the guidance of our music coaches. Mixtures of strings and brass/woodwind are not uncommon and a wide range of abilities, instruments, and music styles are welcome!
